A defect that appears after a material lot change can make the material an obvious suspect. The timing is useful evidence, but it is not a root cause.
A disciplined troubleshooting sequence compares material identity and condition with the actual process window, equipment state and part response before a resin change is authorized.
Freeze the evidence before adjusting everything
Record lot, dryer conditions, moisture data where relevant, machine settings, actual melt and mold temperatures, pressures, cycle time, scrap pattern and defect location.
Changing several settings immediately may recover production, but it can also erase the information needed to determine what changed.
Verify material identity and condition
Confirm grade, lot, color or additive package, storage history and contamination risk. For hygroscopic materials, verify drying and moisture control rather than assuming the dryer setpoint establishes material condition.
Compare the real process, not only the recipe
Machine setpoints are not always equivalent to material experience. Residence time, screw recovery, back pressure, shear, actual melt temperature, mold temperature and cooling balance can move while the saved recipe remains unchanged.
Use process data to determine whether the material is operating inside a stable window.
Use targeted characterization when the process cannot explain it
If controlled processing does not resolve the difference, use appropriate analytical or physical testing to compare suspect and reference material.
The test should be chosen around the observed failure mode: identity or contamination, rheology, moisture, thermal behavior, filler content or another relevant variable.

Confirm the correction under controlled conditions
Whether the cause is material or process, verify the corrective action across enough production to establish repeatability. Document the condition that restored the process and the evidence supporting the conclusion.
